South Korea has revised its economic growth projection for 2026, increasing it from 2% to 3%, a move largely attributed to the high demand for semiconductors and strong export figures. The government anticipates a 40% boost in exports this year, with the current account surplus expected to reach an unprecedented $290 billion. This significant surplus is mainly driven by the soaring export of chips.

In an effort to maintain sustainable growth, the government has introduced its “3-4-5 Vision” strategy. This ambitious plan aims to elevate the nation’s potential growth rate to 3%, establish South Korea among the world’s top four exporters, and boost the per capita gross national income to $50,000. The initiative outlines substantial investments totaling 800 trillion won, focusing on expanding semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

A significant portion of the investment will be directed towards advancing artificial intelligence infrastructure, developing sophisticated chip packaging, and integrating industrial AI applications. While the majority of these funds are anticipated to come from the private sector, the government plans to support these efforts through infrastructure development, research initiatives, financial backing, and regulatory reforms.

The strategic framework also includes plans to attract highly skilled foreign professionals to bolster the workforce. In addition, the government is committed to enhancing supply chain resilience and establishing a Future Response Fund. This fund is designed to channel investments into next-generation industries, educational advancements, and regional development, ensuring that the current semiconductor boom leads to long-term economic prosperity.
