In a notable development for Arab stock markets, trading activity saw a significant upsurge in July, with share volumes jumping 28.82% compared to the previous month. This surge was primarily fueled by increased trading on the Iraq Stock Exchange, followed closely by Egypt. The total volume reached an impressive 261.86 billion shares, a substantial rise from June’s 203.27 billion shares.
Despite the heightened trading activity, the overall value of transactions experienced a decline. In July, the transaction value dropped 16.82% to $90.24 billion, down from $108.48 billion in June. This downward trend in transaction values was observed across several major markets, including those in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait.
The performance of regional stock markets displayed a mixed picture over the month. Egypt’s EGX30 index stood out as one of the strongest performers, registering a 5.85% gain. Meanwhile, other exchanges in the region also recorded various degrees of gains, reflecting a diverse market performance landscape.
The collective market capitalization of Arab stock exchanges saw a slight increase, rising by 0.06% to approximately $4.31 trillion. This stability in market capitalization, coupled with the rise in trading volumes, underscores a dynamic period for Arab equity markets, even amid fluctuating transaction values and varied market performances.
Overall, the figures from July indicate a robust level of trading activity within the region, highlighting the resilience and adaptability of Arab stock markets despite some challenges in transaction values and performance disparities among key exchanges.
